Desperate for some fresh produce - finally a farm gate! Spent an hour chatting with Paul the "Pied Piper" - a 65-year-old German farmer wearing a Metallica t-shirt. He bought 50 acres of land and a small house for $80K a few years ago and has a cohort of rescue ducks, chooks and goats (the latter from his neighbour who didn't want them anymore - he walked them back to his property but they kept taking themselves back home to the neighbours' until he built an enclosure... now he lets everyone out during the day and then whistles and they all come home, so his wife calls him the Pied Piper). Has just planted 100 Huon Pine seedlings because "we don't have enough trees". Gets up at 4am and looks after the farm by himself as well as his wife who is in a wheelchair, thinking of getting some woofers.

Wishes he'd moved to Tasmania earlier, but when he moved from Germany with his ex-wife she said "I'm going to the big island not the little island" and they ended up in Adelaide.
